VINTAGE EPHEMERA- CHILDRENS CLOTH BOOK

I feel lucky to have unearthed this sweet little treasure 
while sifting through a box of old Popular Science
and Popular Mechanics magazines 
my husband brought home one day. 

 

I believe it's now my responsibility to share the book with all of you.

Feel free to save the pages to your computer.

 

Perhaps you'll find a creative way to re-invent and re-imagine

the precious pictures from this children's book and pass them on.

I certainly intend to-

 

 

This cloth book was published by the Whitman Publishing Co.

of Racine, Wisconsin and copyrighted in 1955.

 

 

 The Tiny Tots cloth children's book is made up of

8 adorable images that are printed back to back on what feels

like a flexible canvas material. They have the look

of water color paintings.

 

 

 

 The book is zigzag stitched along the

binding of the book, securing the pages together.

 You can see the stitching here on this particular page.

 

 

The colors of the images inside this book

are truly amazing when you consider the fact

that this children's book is approximately 60 years old!

 

 

You have to marvel at how a children's book that is so old

and made of cloth has survived for so many years.

 

 

 

The book shows natural wear and tear.

It has obviously been read and loved by a child.

 

 

I will be sure to share with you how I choose to reuse the

pictures from this darling book.

VALENTINE DAY GIFT IDEAS

 

 

Over the last couple of days, between snow storms

in Middleboro, Ma., I got an itch to be creative and

make something fun and fresh for valentine's day.

 

On the left is a pincushion or make-do, it's up to you.

While on the right I created a wool penny rug style cone

filled with handcrafted mini pinwheels.

 

 

 

The pincushion was inspired by a vintage valentine. 

Nothing speaks to my creative spirit more than

a little valentine diddy that is all about sewing!

 

 

 

Can you guess what I used to create

the arrow going straight through the heart?

 

 

The arrow is made from metal screening

and silver pipe cleaners!

I know!!!!

 

 

Here you see the tiny embellishments I added

to the bed spring. They are tied on with silver tinsel.

 

 

 

While the pinwheel cone was made to stand up inside a bed spring,

 you see here, it can also be hung from a hook.

Either way, I think it's fun and full of whimsy!

 I found this adorable little boy image on thegraphicsfairy.com.

He is printed on cardstock and outlined with silver glitter.

The heart was cut from glitter vinyl and silver

tinsel has been hand sewn around the perimeter of the heart.

 

 

 

Pinterest.com has a plethora of websites that offer

free mini pinwheel templates for you to use.  

I chose two different styles and used a mix of glittery cardstock.

I just happened to already have(if you can believe it)

the brads used to secure the pinwheel petals.

I don't think I could have wished for anything more appropriate!

 

 

 

The best thing about creating something yourself,

is that it doesn't just have to be for a special occassion.

With your imagination, it can be made for every day!

 February is the perfect month to celebrate friendship,

 love and romance.

 Show someone in your life how much you care by creating

The old fashioned imagery, the sweet graphics, and the simple sentiment.

Everything about vintage valentine postcards and ephemera says....love.

 

 

 

Even the worlds greatest wordsmiths and literary masters

have penned poems and sonnets about love that have

stood the test of time.
